The Centre financier des Chèques Postaux built in Orléans in 1968 is an iconic location. It contributed to the emergence of the new La Source neighborhood with its jobs, grocery store, nursery, cultural center, and sports facilities. It is part of the social history of Chèques Postaux and, in particular, women’s fight for better living and working conditions. It has left a lasting mark on the Orléans landscape with its remarkable architecture by Louis Arretche. Its heritage value calls into question our modern legacy. Beyond its historical and aesthetic dimensions, it invites us to consider its practical value, its geographical location, and its potential to generate new, unexpected, and non-standard uses.
The building is approached as a structure that can offer large spaces to flexibly accommodate several programmatic functions, parking lots, and housing, but also common areas that are not limited to the regulatory dimension of circulation. The aim is to offer, in addition to housing, common areas that define the housing environment, a landscape that allows for circulation but also for the life of the building.
