This hospice building dating from 1730 is located within the protected perimeter of the listed castle of Mauléon. Its classic 18th-century facade is characterized by large openings and bears witness to the building’s history. Its original shape, with a symmetrical truss and a traditional slate roof, evokes the reduction of a mountain to two slopes, the ubac and the adret, one in the shade, the other in the sun. On the one hand, the building envelope is treated in a traditional way with a recoated facade. On the other, it is modified in a contemporary way and covered with cladding reflecting the colors of the river and the woods facing it. This ambitious medico-social program includes all the healthcare facilities on the ground floor of the historic building. The first floor houses the medical-social center, specialists, and dental surgeries. In view of the building’s architectural and heritage value, the works were limited to a strict minimum: renovation of the existing building, improvement of access from the street and parking areas, and planting of cherry trees.
