Reflecting the production of an era, the Ordos 100 project is unprecedented in the history of architecture: 100 architects from around the world proposed 100 individual houses. The “Hutin” project is located far from the riverbank on the site’s upper reaches, opening onto the river and the surrounding landscape. With a surface area of 1,000 m² (10,764 sq. ft), the house includes living, service, and garden spaces. The spaces are not characterized by functions but by qualities, a diversity of atmospheres, and a flexible partition. The house is opaque on the northern and western sides, closing the site to the prevailing winds, and open to the light from the south towards the river and the hillsides. A roof garden is laid out like a large meadow with a yurt, recalling the Mongolian steppes.
