House in Artigues

This townhouse on two levels with a workshop intended for a couple with children was completed in three months. Located in the heart of a residential area near a municipal park in the Bordeaux area, the plot is bordered to the northeast by the Gua stream. There are suburban houses in the immediate environment to the south and west. The client’s workshop consists of a vast closed polycarbonate atelier, an adjoining office, and a large, covered terrace of 30 m² (323 sq. ft) facing the garden. It occupies the whole of the ground floor on the same level as the street. The first floor houses all the living spaces. On the garden side, the living area cum kitchen is completely open to the outside. Full-height sliding windows access an outdoor terrace 2.1 m (6’10”) wide, overlooking a bamboo cluster. The living areas all enjoy a view of the river and its reedy banks. On the street side, the rooms are protected from the immediate environment while remaining open to the park thanks to their banded windows.
